Residential Network Consultants
With fire in our eyes and courage in our hearts the RNC's of UAlbany go out into the cold cruel world to save our prescious network once again...!
Hehe, do I have your attention? J OK, so now down to what we really do J Here at the University at Albany I work for ResNet. Last year I was the Quad Mentor (one of the managers for the quad-based staffs) for Indian Quad (the all frosh quadrangle). My staff was the best on campus! We had a record number of trouble tickets come in for network-related problems, and my staff overturned them in record time. One Indian Quad RNC supported an average of 100+ students! I was so proud of those guys (and Whitney) for the excellent work they did!
Basically what ResNet does is keep the school up and connected to the information
super highway. ;-) Each consultant is charged with keeping the network running
in one or two of the residence halls here on campus. ResNet
is changing starting in the 2001-2002 academic year. We're not going to have
quad-based teams anymore, but instead we'll be more like a centralized HelpDesk/Technical
Support staff. This is a major change, and many people are worried that this
will destroy our program.
However,
I'm confident that this new system is worth exploring and although there will
be bugs to work out, it may prove to be worth it in the end. Part of this change
includes merging our services with the Academic
Computing Department (the people who run all the user rooms on campus).
Hopefully we'll get along and make a better support system for our students
and faculty.
Here's a link to the ResNet Staff List where you can find mine, and the other staff's, pictures and some bio information created by the ResNet Director (Marty Manjak) J Marty is a very creative individual, so be prepared to laugh at some of the comments made on the Staff List.
OK, now that I've told you about my exciting and ever changing position on the ResNet staff, let's get on with the show!
